Rolf Nolting

Rolf Nolting (born December 10, 1926 in Bochum ; † October 5, 1995 ) was a German architect and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

Nolting was born as the son of a weighing foreman in Bochum. After attending secondary school in Vorsfelde (today Wolfsburg ), he initially did Reich labor service , was drafted into military service in early 1944 and took part in the Second World War as a soldier in Normandy and Holland . In September 1944 he suffered a serious wound in the Arnhem area as part of Operation Market Garden, as a result of which his right thigh had to be amputated.

After his release from British captivity in 1946, Nolting completed an apprenticeship as a draftsman with two architects in Braunschweig and, from 1948, attended the state building school in Holzminden , which he graduated in 1950 with an examination for structural engineering. In October 1950 he founded the architecture office Rolf Nolting and has since worked as a freelance architect in Wolfsburg .

Political party

Nolting had been a member of the CDU since 1960.

From 1960 to 1972 Nolting was a council member of the then city of Vorsfelde and became council member of the city of Wolfsburg after the regional reform . He had been a member of the district council of the Helmstedt district since 1964 and was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament from 1967 to 1974 by direct mandate for the CDU in the sixth to seventh electoral period.

Public offices

From 1968 to 1972 Nolting was the district administrator of the Helmstedt district. From November 3, 1976 to November 12, 1986 he was Lord Mayor of Wolfsburg. He was also chairman of the Lower Saxony City Association as the forerunner of the Lower Saxony City Council . Nolting was a member of the Presidium of the German Association of Cities and was chairman of the building committee.
