Athletic career

In 1971/72 he was used nine times in twenty GDR league games played. After that he had to do an 18-month military service in the National People's Army , but was able to continue playing football in the GDR league with the Army Sports Association (ASG) Vorwärts Löbau . As a soldier, he completed 29 games in the 1972/73 and 1973/74 seasons. After the end of his army service, Tröger joined the BSG Motor Ascota in Karl-Marx-Stadt , with which he played in the third-rate district league Karl-Marx-Stadt in the 1974/75 season .

For the 1975/76 season Tröger joined the GDR league club Chemie Böhlen and played 20 games of the 22 point games. In the 1976/77 season he was used in all 20 league games, Böhlen reached the promotion round to the league as a season winner and managed the promotion. Tröger was also in all eight qualifying games. Also in his first league season in 1977/78 he completed all point games, in the 26 games he was usually used as a defender. In 1978/79 he had to pause for five weeks in the second half of the season and only made 21 league appearances. The BSG Chemie did not manage to stay up this time and from 1979/80 began a multi-year phase as an elevator team between the Oberliga and the GDR league, each relegation was always followed by promotion. Before Tröger ended his footballer career in 1984, he played three more times in the GDR league and twice in the major league. In the relegation season 1982/83, his last league season, he shot his only league goal on the penultimate game day. In the away game at FC Karl-Marx-Stadt , he scored the interim 1: 1 equalization in the 3-2 defeat. Rolf Tröger spent the last season of his career in national game operations in 1983/84 as a 30-year-old in the GDR league, where he played his last ten league matches. Then he was able to look back on a record of 86 league games with one goal and 126 GDR league games with three goals as well as 22 appearances in promotion games.
