Rolf de Heer

Rolf de Heer (born May 4, 1951 in Heemskerk , Netherlands ) is an Australian director , screenwriter and film producer .

He and his family immigrated to Sydney from the Netherlands in 1959 when he was eight years old . Before he studied directing and production at the Australian Film Television and Radio School from 1977 to 1980 , he had worked for Australian radio for seven years. In the 1980s he established himself as an independent filmmaker. Since the mid-1990s, his films have been shown in competition at the most important international film festivals (Venice, Cannes and Berlin). For the film Bad Boy Bubby he won a special jury award and the director award of the Australian Film Institute at the Venice International Film Festival in 1993 .

His production company Vertigo Productions is based in Adelaide . With this he also produced his film 10 Canoes, 150 Spears and 3 Women (2006), which was shot in the language of the Ganalbingu . This film received over ten awards; including again the director's award of the Australian Film Institute for de Heer and the jury award of the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes International Film Festival .
