history

A group of settlers from New England began the construction of the village in 1853, which failed due to poor planning and illness of the settlers. Most of them then left the place in 1854.

In the years from 1841 to 1891 , more than 72,000 Luxembourgers immigrated to America. It was the poorest of the poor who left Luxembourg. In 1856 some of them came from God Bring and Heffingen to Rollingstone and built sawmills there. At the time of this emigration, Rollingstone became one of the largest places for emigrated Luxembourgers. Shops and a wooden Roman Catholic church have sprung up along the main street of the village. A post office was established in 1860. In 1869 a stone church was built. In 1868 the Chicago Great Western Railroad joined the railroad . In 1920 the Holy Trinity Catholic School was founded, which is now the Rollingstone Elementary School . Rollingstone's town hall housed a prison, courtroom, fire station and, at times, a shop, which in 1987 was rededicated as the Rollingstone Luxembourg Heritage Museum . Even today, some of the city's citizens speak their native language and celebrations originating from Luxembourg are held.
