aims

The long-term goal is to establish the orchestra as a professional orchestra. The orchestra aims to preserve the musical legacy of the Roma and Sinti and to show their influences on classical music. They perform works that bear the stylistic influence of the music of the Roma and Sinti. In addition, contemporary compositions were commissioned for the orchestra that pick up on and process Roma and Sinti influences. In doing so, they saw themselves as ambassadors of their musical culture and also of an understanding that unites people across national and cultural borders.

repertoire

The orchestra's repertoire includes works of classical orchestral literature, which are clearly inspired by the musical influences of Roma and Sinti culture. These include symphonies and symphonic poems, solo concerts, arias and overtures from operas and operettas, dances and other individual orchestral works. In addition, the orchestra is dedicated to the interpretation of works by contemporary composers and promotes them through composition commissions.

The work “Requiem for Auschwitz” by the Sinto composer Roger Moreno-Rathgeb received international attention. The world premiere of the work for solos, choir and orchestra took place in the Nieuwe Kerk Amsterdam in 2012 and was broadcast by the Dutch television station NOS . The work has been performed on various occasions since then, including on the occasion of the commemoration of the deportation of Roma and Sinti from Wiesbaden 75 years ago in the Hessian State Theater in Wiesbaden in the presence of Prime Minister Volker Bouffier . The “Requiem for Auschwitz” is dedicated to all victims of the Holocaust.
