Romain Weingarten (born December 5, 1926 in Paris , † July 13, 2006 in Challans ) was a French playwright .
Life
Weingarten spent his childhood in Brittany. After attending high school in Château-Thierry , he studied philosophy at the Sorbonne . In 1948 he wrote his first play with Akara . In the first few years, Weingarten was particularly influenced by Antonin Artaud . His work was also inspired by the Surrealists and Roger Vitrac . It wasn't until 1961 that he wrote another piece: Les Nourrices . But despite the support of Eugène Ionesco , the play was not a great success. He achieved his breakthrough in 1966 with L 'Été (Eng. Summer), which was also his greatest success. Occasionally he also worked as a director and actor in the performance of his plays.
