Roman Bednář (born March 26, 1983 in Prague ) is a Czech football player who is under contract with the Czech first division club Sparta Prague .

Club career

Roman Bednář played for ČAFC Praha and Bohemians Prague in his youth . He got his first professional contract in 2002 with FK Mladá Boleslav . In his first season, the young striker scored seven goals in 23 games, the following year he scored ten goals in 22 games and was able to celebrate promotion to the Gambrinus League with his team . Bednář was also one of the club's best strikers in the first division, scoring six times in 25 games.

In the summer of 2005 he was sold for about one million euros to the Lithuanian club FBK Kaunas , for which he did not play a single game because the owner Vladimir Romanov transferred him to one of his other clubs, Heart of Midlothian . In his debut season for the Hearts, Bednář scored seven goals in 19 league games.

In the summer of 2007, the offensive player initially moved to the English second division West Bromwich Albion on loan . At first he only sat on the bench, only when Kevin Phillips was injured Bednář got his chance and contributed 13 goals to the team's promotion to the Premier League . After the successful 2007/08 season , he moved to West Brom in 2008 for £ 2.3m on a firm contract basis. In 2009 he was banned from the FA for three months for violating doping regulations .

Since January 28, 2012 he was under contract with Blackpool FC .

For the 2012/13 season he moved back to the Turkish Süper Lig to Sivasspor . After just two months and without playing, Bednář dissolved his contract with Sivasspor and left the club. He returned to his Czech homeland and joined Sparta Prague in January 2013 .

National team

On August 16, 2006 he made his debut in the Czech national team against Serbia .
