Roman Woerner

Roman Woerner (born August 5, 1863 in Bamberg , † October 20, 1945 in Würzburg ) was a German literary scholar , translator and editor .

In 1895 he completed his habilitation through the Norwegian writer Henrik Ibsen in Munich . From 1901 to 1909 he was a professor at the newly established chair for literary studies at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and from 1925 full professor at the University of Würzburg .

He translated several dramas by the Greek poet Sophocles into German: Aias , Die Trachinierinnen , Antigone , King Oedipus , Electra , Philoctetes , Oedipus on Colonus .
