Romualdas Granauskas

Romualdas Granauskas (born May 18, 1939 in Mažeikiai , † October 28, 2014 in Vilnius ) was a Lithuanian author, writer and dramaturge.

Life

Granauskas graduated from school in Seda (in the Mažeikiai district ) and studied at the Kauno politechnikos institutas in Kaunas . Then he worked as an editor for the Lithuanian newspaper Mūsų žodis and the magazine Nemunas (German: Memel river). In later life he took on various activities such as construction workers, metal workers and radio reporters, he also worked as a lecturer in Mosėdis (in the district of Skuodas ).

His grave is in the Antakalnis cemetery in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius .

In 1954 his first stories were published in the Medžių viršūnės collection , which was published in 1969 as The Tops of the Trees in English. This was followed by the novel Duonos valgytojai (English Bread Eaters , 1975), in which he tells of the older generation of retired farmers, their manners, customs and morals. In the same year his novella Jaučio aukojimas , German: Das Bullenopfer , appeared, in which nature, mythology and history are the themes. In 1988 he published his main work Gyvenimas po klevu ( Life under the Maple ), which was also made into a film in the same year. The first of his works, which appeared in German in 2011, is the original novel Das Strudelloch, published in 2003 .
