Ronald "Ron" Greener (born January 31, 1934 in Easington (County Durham) , † October 19, 2015 in Darlington ) was an English football player .

Career

In his youth he played for Barnsley FC and later moved to the Easington Colliery AFC as a professional soccer player.

In 1952 he moved to Newcastle United and made his debut on October 3, 1953 in a 2-0 home loss to Charlton Athletic . After that he only played twice for Newcastle.

After three years he moved to Darlington FC , where he spent most of his career and is still the record player with 490 competitive games.

At the end of his career, he moved to Stockton FC for two years

Trivia

He refused military service and worked as a blacksmith .

The conference room in the Darlington Arena was named after him in his honor.
