Ronald Schmid

Ronald Schmid (born June 4, 1949 in Holzkirchen / Oberbayern ) is a German lawyer who is particularly active in the areas of aviation law and travel law. He has been working as a lawyer in Frankfurt am Main since 1980 and at his residence in Wiesbaden . He is also an honorary professor at the Technical University of Darmstadt and at the Technical University of Dresden . There he teaches travel law and aviation law.

Career

Ronald Schmid studied law from 1971 to 1977 at the Philipps University in Marburg and the Georg August University in Göttingen. In 1983 he did his doctorate at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main under Edgar Ruhwedel on the subject of "The division of labor in modern air traffic and its effect on the liability of the air carrier". Schmid has been co-editor of the Frankfurt Commentary on Air Law since 1984 . In addition, he has been publishing the ReiseRecht aktuell magazine since 1993 together with Ansgar Staudinger ( Bielefeld University ) and Klaus Tonner ( Rostock University ) .

After taking the first state examination in law, Ronald Schmid was a trainee lawyer at the Frankfurt am Main Regional Court from 1977 to 1979 . After passing the second state examination in law in 1980, he was admitted to the bar. Since 1996 he has also been a specialist lawyer for labor law . In 2005, Ronald Schmid was appointed to the “Specialist Lawyers Committee for Transport and Forwarding Law” by the Frankfurt am Main Bar Association, of which he is Deputy Chairman.

From 1988 to 2003 Ronald Schmid was the authorized signatory of the German holiday airline Aero Lloyd, responsible for the areas of law and personnel as well as transport policy.

Today, Ronald Schmid mainly advises and represents passengers and travelers, such as the victims and survivors of the Concorde catastrophe (2000), the Luxair crash (2002) and the emergency landing of an AUA aircraft (2004). In addition, he works as a consultant in aviation and travel law litigation as well as a judicial and private expert.

From 2005 to 2012 Ronald Schmid was also a mediator of the "Reiseschiedsstelle", an arbitration board for online travel that was initially set up by the Internet Travel Sales Association and which was taken over by the Association for the Promotion of Alternative Dispute Resolution in Travel Law eV (FaSiR eV) in 2007 .

Ronald Schmid is also a founding member of the German Society for Travel Law eV (DGfR), which was founded in 1992 . He served as its president from 1992 to 2007; since 2007 he has been honorary president.
