Ronan is a city in Lake County in the US state of Montana .
The place is about 20 kilometers south of Flathead Lake at the foot of the Mission Mountains, part of the Rocky Mountains .
The original name Spring Creek was renamed in 1893 in honor of Major Peter Ronan of the Flathead Reservation .
