Ronidazol (trade name Ridzol ) is an antibiotic from the nitroimidazole group . In Germany it is approved for the treatment of carrier pigeons against yellow button (infestation with Trichomonas gallinae ), the use in food-producing animals is prohibited. The active ingredient can also be used in other birds to combat trichomonads , Histomonas meleagridis ( black head disease ) and Giardia intestinalis . In addition, the active ingredient is used in tritrichomonosis in cats .
Ronidazol after oral fast uptake absorbed . The bioavailability is 95%. The active ingredient and its metabolites are mainly excreted in the urine .
