content

Lilly Parker travels to Cornwall after her father dies, expecting to inherit his business and money. But shortly before his death, her father changed his will and handed the company over to his last wife and now widow Nora. Lilly is now to be adequately compensated, among other things, by a million pounds and lifelong right to live in the house, but still cannot understand why she only gets a simple permanent position in her father's company and not the management. The reason quickly comes to light: Her father had a paternity test carried out, for which Nora had commissioned a dubious company. Lilly is now deeply shaken that the man she believed to be her father all her life should not have been.

She decides to join the company from now on, her father's widow, in the job offered to her. The department is a "suggestion box" to which people with distress can write letters which are then answered. Every letter is answered and some letters from the 1960s have to be gradually scanned into the computer system. Lilly and a colleague came across a letter that 50 years ago was not answered because it was overlooked and not opened. She wants to locate the author, Grace Turner, now living in New York, and find out which of the two men portrayed in her letter she has chosen.

Grace is now traveling to Cornwall with her grandson Nicholas. They now want to find David Trewyn together, whom Grace had to leave for another, now deceased, man, but whom she still thinks about often.

After some difficulties, the heart-sick Grace finds the now paralyzed David and the two get together again. Lilly leaves her almost fiancé Eric, expecting to see the departed Nicholas again soon. Eric is now getting together with Lilly's stepmother, Nora, who both knew each other from their youth. Lilly leaves the company after Nora found the control paternity test commissioned by Lilly in the post office and offered her the highest position in the company with a promise to leave.

A year later, Grace and David get married, who have fallen in love again after 50 years without each other, and the wedding offers Lilly the opportunity to finally get together with Nicholas, which they both use. Nora is pregnant with Eric.
