Rosemarie Bowe (born September 17, 1932 as Rose Marie Bowe in Butte , Montana , † January 20, 2019 in Cuernavaca , Mexico ) was an American model and actress . She gained fame through her marriage to the actor Robert Stack , with whom she was married from 1956 until his death in 2003.

Life

Rosemarie Bowe was born in Butte in 1932, the youngest of three siblings. Her father was a building contractor, her mother a fashion designer. Bowe grew up in Tacoma and began modeling in Seattle as a teenager . She graduated from Stadium High School in 1950 and won the Miss Tacoma title in a beauty pageant that same year . A little later the title of Miss Montana followed . After a brief visit to Tacoma Community College, Bowe moved to Los Angeles in 1951 for her further career .

In Los Angeles, Bowe was the model for several pin-ups drawn by the well-known illustrator Gil Elvgren . Several recordings for magazines followed, including as a cover girl. The producer and film agent Charles K. Feldman became aware of Bowe and put her under contract with Columbia Pictures . She got her first supporting role in 1952 in the musical Men Make Fashion with Kathryn Grayson and Red Skelton .

In June 1952, Bowe was featured on the cover of Life Magazine . After she ended her contract with Columbia Pictures and signed with 20th Century Fox , she followed in 1954 with leading roles in the adventure films Revenge on Haiti and The Daughter of the Caliph . Another major role played Bowe in 1956 in the Western The Peacemaker on the side of James Mitchell .

On January 23, 1956, Bowe married actor Robert Stack in Beverly Hills . The couple had two children together, daughter Elizabeth and son Charles. After getting married, Bowe gave up her modeling career and interrupted her film career. Exceptions were supporting roles in Everything in One Night with Dean Martin and Hell of Macao at the side of her husband. In 1970 she was seriously injured in a car accident in Sacramento . A few years later, Bowe returned as an actress, starring in films such as Murder on Flight 502 from 1975 and Dying ... and Let Live from 1986 again at her husband's side.

After Robert Stack's death in May 2003, Rosemarie Bowe retired into private life. She last lived in Beverly Hills and Cuernavaca, Mexico, where she died on January 20, 2019 at the age of 86. Bowe was buried at her husband's side in Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery .
