Rosemary Follett

Rosemary Follett AO (born March 27, 1948 in Sydney , New South Wales ) is an Australian politician and was the first Chief Minister of the Australian Capital Territory . She is a member of the Australian Labor Party .

After her party's electoral victory in the first election of the Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly , Follett became the territory's first chief minister in 1989. She was the first female head of government at the state level in Australia.

Follett held this office from May 8, 1989 to December 5, 1989, and again from June 6, 1991 to March 2, 1995.

She was awarded the title of Officer of the Order of Australia in 2006.
