Trevor Kaine

Trevor Thomas Kaine (born February 17, 1928 in Penguin , Tasmania , † June 3, 2008 ) was an Australian politician and Chief Minister of the Australian Capital Territory .

Life

In 1989 Kaine was first elected to the Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly for the Liberal Party of Australia . On December 5, 1989, he took up the post of Chief Minister of the Territory, after his predecessor Rosemary Follett had to resign because of a tight majority. On June 6, 1991, Kaine was replaced by Follett because the majority was too tight. In 1992, 1995 and 1998 he was re-elected to the Legislative Assembly. After the 1998 election, Kaine resigned from his party and formed the United Canberra Party . The party was registered on July 30, 1998. When the party dissolved itself on June 30, 2001, Kaine took up his MP as an independent . In the 2001 elections, he failed to be elected as an independent candidate in the Legislative Assembly.
