Ross Ventrone (born September 27, 1986 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania ) is a former American football player of the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers in the National Football League on the position of safety , which was mainly used in the special teams .

After an inconspicuous career in college football at Villanova University , Ventrone was not signed by any team in the 2011 NFL Draft before the New England Patriots signed him as a free agent . After he was not used in the 2010 season, he made his debut in 2011, scored two tackles in eight NFL games and was part of the team that only lost to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLVI (17:21). In 2013 he moved to the Pittsburgh Steelers , where he played a total of 14 games before he was transferred back to the Patriots after the first quarter of the 2015 season.

During his first stay in the Patriots, Ventrone acquired the reputation of a modern day laborer , as he was either hired, fired or promoted to the 53-man cadre by the Practice Squad 21 times during his three years . In 2012 he satirized himself in a sketch . At the time of his second Patriots stay in 2015, he had been transferred from the Patriots for the 30th time; in detail, there were 14 commitments, 11 layoffs, and 5 promotions.

Ventrone is the younger brother of former NFL player and Patriots Special Teams coach Raymond Ventrone , so Ventrone was coached by his older brother after his second transfer to New England.
