Military training (2017)

The Rossboden in the west of the city of Chur in the canton of Graubünden is a city quarter on the Rhine .

Currently, the Rossboden is largely used by the Swiss Army , which conducts target practice and other training there. Outside of the military operating hours, the Rossboden is open to the public and is a local recreation area . The “Panoramaweg” through the target slope, at around 200 m above the valley floor, is open to the public on weekends.

The presence of the army in close proximity to the residential areas is controversial. For the time after the army has withdrawn, there are plans to either open up new industrial zones or to transform it into an artificial lake landscape. This idea has been promoted by the Churer Seeverein since 2008 with the preparation of feasibility studies.
