The Quartier sand is a district in the southeast of the city of Chur in the Swiss canton of Grisons . It is located at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level in a narrow valley at the entrance to Schanfigg . The Plessur flows through the quarter and the Arosa Railway runs along the river . The Sandstrasse, which leads past the former Sand depot through the district, ends at the former Sassal stop of the Rhaetian Railway . It continues as Sassalstrasse and ends in Araschgen as a dead end.

The “Im Totengut” crematorium is located in the Sand district . It was built in 1922 by the architect Nikolaus Hartmann and features wall paintings by Giovanni Giacometti from 1929. The “open-air pool sand” was one of the first pools in Switzerland. It was built from 1921 to 1922 according to plans by Walther Sulser. The “Sand” sports halls were built in 1976-79 by the Bündner architect Andres Liesch. In the restored “Sand” small power plant, guided tours are held that compare the electricity production of yesterday and today.

It borders on the districts of Araschgen- Rosenhügel, Chur City and, to the south, on the town of Meiersboden , which belongs to the municipality of Churwalden .
