particularities High firndome

The Rostizkogel is a 3,394 m high mountain of the Kaunergrat , a mountain range of the Ötztal Alps . It is the highest point along the Riffltal and is only towered over by the Watzespitze to the north . Directly to the east of it is the Seekogel , the most technically demanding and rugged mountain on the ridge, which hides it from observers from the Rifflsee. The Rostizkogel is a great vantage point, from its summit you have great views of the rear and front Kaunergrat equally. From the east it offers the viewer the sight of a steep firn ramp with steep cliffs to the south. Directly south under its steep southern flank is the K2, which is very popular with ski tourers and mountaineers .

Routes

The normal route leads from the Rifflsee to the right of the lake inflow into the Riffltal. Crossing several streams, one approaches the first step in an arc to the south. In the right incision up to the back running up to the NW. On the back it is difficult but not difficult to climb, whereby it is best to keep to the left due to the dangerous north falls. Continue northwest to the notch between Schneidigem Wändle and Seekogel. Over steep moraine walls up to the Northern Lochferner. Stay right on the moraine wall until the end of the steep ice. Now up on the right (northern) edge of the Ferners, avoiding the crevices in the center of the distance until the glacier plain is almost columnless. Towards the distant ridge of the Rostizkogel until you reach the edge of the glacier (be careful of the crevice!). Over the easily passable but steep northern part of the ridge to the ridge and easily over the scree or firn ridge to the summit with Steinmann.
