Rostyslav Saulytschnyj ( Ukrainian Ростислав Зауличний ; born September 6, 1968 ) is a former Ukrainian boxer . Saulytschnyj was a silver medalist at the 1992 Olympic Games and a bronze medalist at the 1991 and 1993 European Championships and the 1993 World Championships . He was also a participant in the 1996 Olympic Games .

Career

Saulytschnyj was Soviet champion in 1990 middleweight (-75 kg) and 1991 in light heavyweight (-81 kg).

In 1990 Saulytschnyj took part in the middleweight division at the Goodwill Games in Seattle , but retired in the first fight against Chris Johnson , Canada (4: 1). At the European Championships in the following year he won the bronze medal in the light heavyweight division, losing in the semifinals to Dariusz Michalczewski , Poland (26:19).

At the 1992 Olympic Games , Saulytschnyj, after the collapse of the Soviet Union for the United Team starting under the Olympic flag , reached after victories over the winner of the 1991 Pan-African Games Jacklord Jacobs, Nigeria (16: 8), Stephen Wilson, Great Britain (13: 0) and Zoltán Béres , Hungary (RSC 3rd), the final, which he lost to Torsten May , Germany (8: 3), and thus won the Olympic silver medal.

The 1993 World Championships ended for Saulytschnyj, now of Ukrainian nationality, with another medal win.
