The red-necked spurfowl ( Francolinus afer ) is a type of species of Frankoline from the family of pheasant-like (Phasianidae). There are seven subspecies.

features

It is 25–38 cm long, with significant size differences between the subspecies. Its plumage is overall dark - brown on the upper side, black on the lower body with gray and white stripes. The beak , the mostly bare skin of the face as well as the neck and legs are bright red.

Like most francolin, it is only common in Africa . He lives in central Africa and along the east coast of Tanzania .

Way of life

The Rotkehlfrankolin is a watchful species and always seeks protection in high vegetation. To eat, it also dares to go into open terrain such as arable land, if there is undergrowth or thicket nearby. Its nest is a bare hollow in tall grass or scrub, the female lays 3–9 eggs .
