The Rotkreuz-Museum Essen is a museum of the German Red Cross in the city center of Essen .

History and representation

After the DRK district association had commissioned a chronicle of the local Red Cross work since 1889 in 1967, a local Red Cross museum was set up on August 14, 1990. Objects from the history of the Red Cross organization at the Essen location are shown on an exhibition space of 200 m² in the rooms of the DRK district office in Essen. The exhibition and the archive include more than 5000 exhibits, which document the technical and organizational development of the possibilities for saving human lives over the past 125 years.

A life-size doll as it was used for first aid training, rescue equipment such as stretchers and oxygen devices as well as other medical devices are exhibited in the original. Orders, decorations, flags, pictures, certificates and other documents have been collected from organizational life, which are presented in showcases.

The exhibition gives an insight into the internal history of the Essen district association and the formerly independent DRK columns in the individual districts and thus also about part of the local history of Essen.

The museum is a member of the working group of the German Red Cross Museums.
