The Rufous-sense bill ( Campylorhamphus trochilirostris even Rotsensenschnabel or sickle tree chipper ) is a South American passerine bird of the family tree climber .

features

The 28 cm long red-backed scythesbill is a slender bird with a very long, sickle-like curved beak that makes up a quarter of the total length. The strong claws and the stiff tail enable the species to climb tree trunks. The red-brown plumage is interspersed with lighter brown on the head, neck and underside.

The red-backed scythesbill is a sociable bird that appears in mixed flocks with other insectivorous birds. He climbs up tree trunks or larger branches and looks for insects under bark, in cracks and in bromeliad flowers.

Reproduction

Two eggs are incubated for around two weeks in a spherical nest padded with plant material, which is built in tree stumps or tree hollows.
