The Rotra Vente is a RoRo ship built for the transport of components for offshore wind turbines . The ship was converted from a container ship for Siemens Wind Power .

description

The Rotra Vente is based on the hull , deckhouse and machinery of an existing container ship that has been converted into a special RoRo ship. The forecastle was equipped with a bow ramp for RoRo loading with nacelles of offshore wind turbines. The front hull houses the characteristic, hydraulically operated bow visor and ramp , while the stern houses the deckhouse and engine room.

The ship has a total length of 141.5 m, width of 21 m and draft of 7.10 m. The ship is measured at 6,475 GT. The load capacity is 8,000 dwt. The main deck is protected by a collapsible weather roof to protect the wind turbine gondolas from the salty seawater spray.

The Rotra Vente has been in service since the end of 2016 and has transported several nacelles from Aabenraa through the Kiel Canal to Esbjerg . The waterway is cheaper than road transport, despite the approximately 300 kilometers longer route. The decision to convert the ship was also made with a view to the new Siemens Wind Power production site in Cuxhaven .

The Rotra Vente's sister ship , the Rotra Mare , was converted to transport the towers and rotor blades. It can transport twelve rotor blades between the Siemens plants in Hull in the UK and Aalborg in Denmark and the respective installation ports.
