The Rottkuhle is a lake in the Bremen district of Hemelingen belonging district Arbergen that as the lake is used and managed. The lake was created by a dike breach. The time of creation is unknown. The name "Rottkuhle" is derived from the Low German term "rotten". It originally referred to a place where harvested flax should rot .

In the years 1948/1949, the northern part of the lake was expanded into an open-air swimming pool with sheet pile walls. Today the lake is fed by a well that pumps water from a depth of 28 meters.

After the bath had to be closed to bathing in 1997 due to the increased number of germs, it was fitted with a soil filter during the subsequent restoration .
