The New Weser is a lake in the town of Werder in the Bremen district Obervieland belonging district Habenhausen . The lake was created as a result of the Weser breakthrough in March 1981 . The flood bed with the lake in it has been ecologically redesigned; at the lake, in which there are several islands, there are steep bank breaks and shallow water zones.

The lake is fed by seeping water from the Weser and drained through a drainage pipe into the Lower Weser.

New Weser nature reserve

The "Neue Weser", together with the surrounding meadows, is designated as a European bird sanctuary and has been a nature reserve since December 28, 1988. The nature reserve is 34.8  hectares . It is bounded in the south-east by the weir road, in the south-west by the leading dike of the Werdersee and in the north-west by the farm and footpath that runs from the leading dike to the weir road. In the northeast, the border of the nature reserve runs around 70 m southwest of the weir path.

In the northwest, on the edge of the nature reserve, there is a viewing platform from which part of the lake can be seen. The lake is clearly visible from the weir road.
