Luneplate (nature reserve)
The Luneplate nature reserve is a 1438 hectare nature reserve in the Bremerhaven district of Fischereihafen . It was placed under protection with effect from March 14, 2015.
The EU bird sanctuary at Luneplate, with an area of 940 ha , had already formed a large part of it . It is of outstanding importance as a resting area for Nordic geese , swans and Limikolen ( little swan , white- fronted goose , barnacle goose , avocet ). As a breeding area it is of great importance for reed-inhabiting bird species as well as for water birds.
The nature reserve covers most of the district of Luneplate , including the water areas of the Weser up to the eastern border of the fairway. In addition, the Weser dyke, dyke foreland and water areas of the Fischereihafen district are included up to the mouth of the Geeste.
The municipality of Bremerhaven, as the lower nature conservation authority, is responsible for enforcement. The nature reserve is registered with the Bremen Senator for the Environment, Building and Transport in the nature conservation book and bears the name Luneplate .
