The fertilizer Lake is a quarry pond in the Bremen district Burglesum belonging Werder country . It was created between 1977 and 1979 by extracting sand for the construction of the planned "cemetery on the Lesum", which was never completed (today there is a golf course on the site). The quarry pond and the adjacent area are under nature protection.

The lake is fed by groundwater . The water quality is eutrophic .

The name goes back to two estates, the large and small dungeons , which were located to the east and south-east of the lake.

Dunger See nature reserve

The nature reserve is around 33  hectares in size. It is registered in the nature protection book of the city of Bremen under number 10. The area, which has been under nature protection since July 18, 1990, is completely part of the EU bird sanctuary "Werderland". It borders the “ Werderland ” nature reserve in the southwest . In the east it borders on the landscape protection area "Lesumniederung und Burg-Grambke" and apart from a few places in the north on the landscape protection area "Werderland and Lesumröhrichte".

The Dunger See was intended as a body of water for nature conservation from the outset. It is designed to be close to nature with islands, shallow water zones and a bank rich in bays. In the east, a wet fallow area borders the lake. The lake is completely surrounded by trees that have been planted to protect against disturbances.

The lake is the habitat of various ducks . Furthermore come u. a. Great Crested Grebes and Swans. The kingfisher is also native here. Cormorants and egrets use trees on the north shore of the lake as a place to sleep. In the winter months, the lake is a resting and wintering area for numerous ducks and geese .

The reserve is in the north and west of a ditch, in the south of a dirt road and to the east by a Fleet limited. In the north and south of the nature reserve there are observation points that can be reached via dirt roads. Most of the lake is clearly visible from the southern observation point.
