The Stadtwaldsee is a quarry pond in the Bremen city forest. Because of its close proximity to the University of Bremen , the colloquial name Unisee has also established itself.
location
The lake is located in the Bremen Horn-Lehe district , north of the Bürgerpark and Stadtwald , between the Bremen Technology Park, which surrounds the University of Bremen, in the east and the feeder road and Autobahn 27 in the north. It is 28.2 hectares and about 16.5 m deep.
use
On the northeastern bank is the so-called Uni-Wildnis , a nature reserve, a nudist beach and, a little further to the west, the camping site "HanseCamping Bremen". In the south-east, on the side facing the university, there are lawns with a sandy beach . Concerts and open-air events are also occasionally held there. The west end is currently used by surfers, anglers and divers. A planned water ski facility in 2005 and 2007 caused a dispute between a citizens' initiative and a majority in the advisory board on the one hand and the Senator for Internal Affairs and Sport or the potential operator on the other. Investors repeatedly planned to build hotel or wellness facilities in the northeastern area of the lake against the will of the population.
Since algae often form in summer , the lake must occasionally be closed for swimming.
history
The lake and the nature reserve were created by removing sand during the expansion of the A 27 motorway and the construction of the university.
reachability
The stops Wetterungsweg, Campingplatz and Stadtwaldsee of bus route 28 of the Bremer Straßenbahn AG are close to the north-west bank.
