Jean Stodden red winery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The red winery Jean Stodden is located in Rech , in the upper part of the Ahr wine-growing region . Mainly red grape varieties are grown on the 6.5 hectares of the estate . The winery has been a member of the Association of German Predicate and Quality Wineries (VDP for short) since 2005 .

Locations

The winery cultivates around 6.5 hectares of vineyards in the sometimes very steep vineyards on the Ahr (→ steep-slope viticulture ). These layers are characterized by the high proportion of slate in the floors and the slate walls. They offer the vines a preferred climate because they store the sun's heat during the day and release it back to the vines at night.

The vineyards stretch from Bad Neuenahr to Rech :

Grape varieties and wines

85% of the vineyards are planted with Pinot Noir. The rest is made up of the Riesling and Frühburgunder varieties as well as the new varieties Dornfelder and Dunkelfelder .

The red wines are aged in large wooden barrels for at least 16 months. Good qualities are also matured in the new barrique and undergo malolactic fermentation there . In addition to the classic red wines, sparkling wine is also made from the Pinot Noir or Riesling grape varieties .

history

The Stodden family has been growing grapes since 1578. It was not until 1900 that Alois Stodden began to grow Pinot Noir on his farm. Gerhard Stodden managed the winery until his death in January 2013, his eldest son Alexander was involved in the management from the beginning of 2000 and was involved in marketing. He has been running the estate together with his father since 2011, before taking over sole management of it in 2013.
