Bad Neuenahrer Sonnenberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bad Neuenahrer Sonnenberg is a single location in the German wine-growing region Ahr and is considered a prime location in the city of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler . It is part of the large Klosterberg site in the Walporzheim / Ahrtal area . The vineyards are at a height of 100 to 150 m above sea level. NN .

The name Sonnenberg is one of the most common single-layer names in Germany, which occurs almost 40 times in almost all growing areas and refers to the location, which is particularly favorable towards the sun.

The south-facing steep slope comprises 46.62 hectares of approved vineyards. Only 5% of this area is sloping, the rest is steep. The soil types are quite heterogeneous and range from greywacke weathering mixed with loam, through hanging loam, to loess and loess loam. An almost 5 meter high edge in the lower area of the site clearly shows the type of soil. While the greywacke gives the wine a fruity character, the loamy soils make for rich, powerful wines.

The large area is loosened up by several small side valleys. In these areas, the vineyards face east and west.

About 26 hectares of the designated area are currently planted.

Over 90% of the red varieties are cultivated here. The red grape varieties Pinot Noir 65%, Blauer Portugieser 12%, Dornfelder 8%, Frühburgunder 4%, Domina and Regent 3% are grown in the Sonnenberg . The white varieties predominate Riesling 4%, Pinot Blanc , Pinot Gris , Kerner and Muller-Thurgau 4%. The Portuguese vine, which was still popular in the early 1970s (the share was 35% at the time) has since lost its importance.

The VDP wineries Adeneuer , Jean Stodden , Kreuzberg , Meyer-Näkel and Nelles , for example, have shares in the location .
