Rougeon
Rougeon is a red wine variety newly bred at the beginning of the 20th century by the French breeder Albert Seibel . It is a cross between the hybrid vine Jaeger 70 bred by Hermann Jaeger and the clone Seibel 3015 and belongs to the large family of Seibel vines . It is an extremely complex breed in which genes from the wild grapes Vitis rupestris , Vitis aestivalis , Vitis labrusca and Vitis vinifera are present.
Rougeon sprouts late, with moderate fungus resistance to downy mildew . Depending on the expansion, a light red, almost rose-colored simple red wine is created . The wine is mostly used as a blend with other grape varieties.
Since it is a hybrid vine , cultivation was banned in the EU in the 1950s and may only be cultivated in experimental cultivation. In the USA there are smaller plantings in Pennsylvania (→ viticulture in Pennsylvania ), New York (→ viticulture in New York ), Iowa (→ viticulture in Iowa ) and Missouri (→ viticulture in Missouri ).
Synonym: Seibel 5898, S 5898
Parentage: Jaeger 70 × Seibel 3015. Seibel 3015 is itself a cross between the Couderc 28-112 and Regina varieties .
