List of grape varieties

The wild grape Vitis rupestris , also known as sand grape or rock grapevine , is native to the south and west of the United States . It was first described in 1848 by the botanist Georg Heinrich Adolf Scheele . Together with Vitis riparia and Vitis vulpina , Vitis rupestris forms the group of Ripariae. The wild grape has been widely used to cross hybrid grapes .

Vitis rupestris is commonly found in the treeless prairies of the states of Tennessee , Kentucky , Illinois , Missouri , Kansas , New Mexico , Oklahoma , Arkansas , Texas , Louisiana, and Mississippi . It is not a climbing plant, grows bushy and prefers sunny locations.

Ampelographic features

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The young leaves are hairless, shiny and, due to a high proportion of anthocyanins, colored bronze.
  • The small, thick leaves are usually kidney-shaped, i. H. wider than long. The stalk bay is open in the shape of a bracket. The blade is bluntly serrated. The teeth are arranged in the middle of the comparison of the grape varieties.
  • The cylindrical grape is small (5 to 8 cm long) and has loose berries. The round berries are also very small with a diameter of approx. 5 mm and have a grassy-tasting juice. The berry juice is already colored intensely red.

Chromosome number

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 38.

properties

Has a good resistance to root aphid. Has good resistance to powdery mildew and downy mildew. Develops a deep root system and has good rooting properties when propagating. Has a low resistance to limescale and frost. It gives the refined noble varieties good growth. It is important as a cross-breeding partner in rootstock breeding.

Selections: Rupestris du Lot - is one of the most important rootstock varieties in France and America.
Hybrids with Vitis Rupestris : 110 Richter, 1103 Paulsen, 140 Ruggeri, 3309 Couderc, 101-14 MG

Wine

The grapes only provide poor quality wines and are therefore not used in winemaking.

Synonyms
