The Rough Meadows Wildlife Sanctuary is a 222  acres (89.8  ha ) comprehensive protected area in Rowley in the state of Massachusetts of the United States . It is administered by the Massachusetts Audubon Society in cooperation with the Essex County Greenbelt organization.

Protected area

The coastal reserve has with forests, salt marshes and tidal creeks across habitats for a wide variety of plants and animals, including rose-breasted grosbeak , sharp-tailed sparrows , Meadow beach runners and Semipalmated Plover . It is classified as an Important Bird Area and an Area of ​​Critical Environmental Concern . 1.7  mi (2.7  km ) of hiking trails are available to visitors, and events are offered through the Joppa Flats Education Center .
