Don't inherit the dead is a German crime film by Jan Růžička from the year 2000. It is the 223rd episode in the film series Polizeiruf 110 and the 14th case for the Halle inspectors Schmücke and Schneider .

action

After a fatal traffic accident, the course of which is not entirely clear, the inspectors investigate Schmücke and Schneider . Guido Fürst had fallen down a slope with his van and was obviously dead before the accident. The man lived from clearing out the house, liquidating the household and courier trips that took him to Hungary. Due to found vehicle parts that suggest product piracy , the convicted Lindner, for whom Fürst last drove, is targeted.

At the very beginning of her investigation, the commissioners are visited by Waltraud Mengelmann, who claims that her twin sister was murdered. Although she died of a heart attack according to the death certificate, Waltraud is absolutely convinced that it was murder and expects the police to take care of it. She accuses Ina Kowalski, who should be considered in her will and who ran her sister's pension. Since Waltraud Mengelmann senses that the police are not taking her seriously, the old lady takes matters into her own hands. She buys a video camera and a powerful bug so she can eavesdrop on the tenant.

Coincidentally, the late Ortrud Watzke's pension is exactly opposite Lindner's workshop. Schmücke rents a room there in order to be able to monitor Lindner around the clock. When Waltraud Mengelmann notices the inspector, she is convinced that he is investigating because of her. Schmücke pricked up his ears when he discovered that Lindner was also considered in the will. He should inherit the property on which he has his workshop. Watzke wanted to change her will in favor of her sister, which now did not come about due to the death. After Mengelmann notices that Lindner is in the inspector's sights, she also monitors him. When she overhears during her recordings that Lindner has killed his supplier Guido Fürst in a dispute, she suffers a heart attack in shock. Since Schmücke and Schneider are also looking at the recordings, they arrest Lindner.

On the basis of Waltraud Mengelmann's complaint, her sister is exhumed and the forensic doctor actually found a substance that can cause a heart attack. She took the drug regularly, but someone swapped it for a higher dose.

Based on the evidence, Lindner admits the manslaughter to Fürst, but denied having done anything to Ms. Watzke. By chance, Schmücke finds out that the overdosed tablets were actually intended for Waltraud Mengelmann. As a beneficiary of her premature death, lawyer and administrator Stahnke comes into consideration, who also runs her foundation. She sets a trap for him and has no idea that it is not him, but his girlfriend, the physiotherapist Fiedler, who is behind the murder plot. At the last minute, Schmücke and Schneider were able to save Waltraud Mengelmann and arrest Fiedler.
