On Adler's advice, she studied with Karl and Charlotte Bühler at the University of Vienna . In her doctoral thesis in 1929, supervised by Charlotte Bühler, she was able to show that baby-fed babies reacted more quickly to the person who gave them the bottle than to the bottle itself Infants and their perceptions. Together with Pearl Greenberg, she also translated some of Bühler's works about the first year of life into English ( The first year of life , 1930).

In 1933, Alfred Adler introduced her to Heinz Ludwig Ansbacher . The two married in 1934. This marriage resulted in four sons: Theodore Henry Ansbacher, Benjamin R. Ansbacher, Charles Alexander Ansbacher and Max George Ansbacher.

After the war, Heinz L. Ansbacher was given a professorship at the University of Vermont in Burlington, where the couple lived until the end of their lives. Although only her husband had a professorship, Rowena also worked at the university and formed a unit with her husband in all scientific activities.
