Karl Theodor Schmitz

Karl Theodor Schmitz (born February 17, 1905 in Minsk , Russian Empire , † September 15, 1969 in Berlin ) was a German politician ( CDU ).

Schmitz was the son of Reich Germans in Minsk and was interned in Russia during the First World War . In 1918 he moved to the German Reich and initially trained as a commercial artist . He then attended a Seventh-day Adventist high school in Mettmann in the Rhineland . From 1926 to 1929 Schmitz studied at Union College in Lincoln (Nebraska) , USA . After his return to Germany, he taught the Seventh-day Adventists until 1937.

After the Second World War Schmitz became a teacher for Russian at the Askanische Oberschule in Berlin-Tempelhof . He joined the CDU and worked in the district offices of Tempelhof and Steglitz . He was elected to the Berlin House of Representatives in 1950 , but left again in March 1951. From 1955 to 1959 Schmitz was district mayor of Berlin-Tempelhof.

Honor

In November 1979 the "Karl-Theodor-Schmitz-Brücke" was opened in Berlin-Marienfelde in his honor.
