biography
Roxanne Shanté grew up in Queensbridge , a social hotspot in New York. Her career began at the age of 14 when she released the song Roxanne's Revenge . It was a musical answer to the hit Roxanne, Roxanne of the rap group UTFO from 1984. Shanté's song became a hit and her reputation as an energetic battle queen quickly spread.
In 1986 she had the hit Loosey's Rap with funk musician Rick James . In the course of her career she also worked with artists such as Biz Markie ( Def Fresh Crew ), Big Daddy Kane , Craig G , Frankie Cutlass and Kool G Rap ( Deadly Rhymes ).
At the end of the 90s, Shanté slowly withdrew from the music scene as an active artist. She began studying, which, contrary to her own statements, she did not graduate with a doctorate and consequently did not open a psychotherapeutic practice in New York. Nevertheless, she stayed with the music industry and became a kind of mentor for talented young rappers. She also appeared in several Sprite advertisements.
In 2000 she worked with British producer Mekon ( What's Going On? ).
In 2003 she was portrayed in the music documentary `` Miss MC presents Queens of Hip Hop '' with other female hip-hop pioneers ( Salt'N'Pepa , Lady Luck , Rah Digga , Charli Baltimore ). In 2018 the film biography Roxanne Roxanne was published.
