Roy Bean
Phantly Roy Bean (born 1825 in Mason County , Kentucky , † March 13, 1903 in Langtry , Texas ) was a saloon owner and self-appointed judge in the Wild West . He is one of the legendary characters of this time.
Live and act
Bean was born in Mason County, Kentucky, in 1825, the youngest of three sons of Phantley Roy and Anna Henderson Gore Bean. In the 1880s, "Judge" Roy Bean opened his saloon, The Jersey Lilly, in Langtry on the Pecos River in Texas . He was inspired by an actress who was famous at the time: Lillie Langtry .
He declared himself a justice of the peace and called himself the law west of the Pecos . He was respected for his reasonable judgments, even when he favored his friends. In the book The Cowboy. Legend and reality writes Heinz-Josef Stammel :
“Justice of the peace Roy Bean was not only the last great individualist among the early judges, but also the most creatively original ... Without ever having shot, sentenced to death or imprisoned a man, he was able to do it, a chaotic area in West Texas To impose order and peace. "
Bean's dog also caused a stir, although it looked terrifying, it was harmless - even so it scared some monsters.
Bean died of old age in 1903.
The Texan animator and animation director Fred Bean Avery alias Tex Avery was a direct descendant of Roy Bean.

Movie
In 1940 his life was staged under the title The Westerner with Gary Cooper and Walter Brennan as Roy Bean. Brennan won an Oscar for portraying Roy Bean, who is portrayed as the villain in the film . The material was filmed again in 1972, this time a little more freely, under the title That Was Roy Bean with Paul Newman , Ava Gardner , Victoria Principal , Jacqueline Bisset and Anthony Perkins .

In the 31st volume of the comic book series Lucky Luke , entitled The Judge , Bean is portrayed as a self-appointed justice of the peace who is greedy and unscrupulous, but also an original personality. In the Disney comic book The prisoners at White Agony Creek by Don Rosa draws Bean to solve problems constantly hanging into consideration. His companions, including Wyatt Earp , prevent this every time.
