Roystonea dunlapiana is a species of palm from the genus Roystonea nativeto Central America .
features
Like all members of the genus, Roystonea dunlapiana is a single-stemmed, monoecious palm with large pinnate leaves. The trunk is gray-white, up to 20 m high with a diameter of around 38 cm. The crown consists of around 15 leaves , the lowest of which hang down below the horizontal. The crown shaft is around 2 m long. The rachis is around 4 m long, the middle leaf segments are 78 to 88 cm long and 2.5 to 6.5 cm wide.
The inflorescence is around a meter long and just as wide. The appearance of the cover sheet is not known. The spathe is around two meters long, narrowly pointed and as long as the crown shaft. The side branches of the inflorescence are up to 37 cm long and 1 to 1.3 mm in diameter and are stiff. The male flowers are white, the sepals are triangular, around 1 mm long and 0.8 to 1.8 mm wide. The petals are elliptical to oval, 2.9 to 5.6 mm long and 2.1 to 2.4 mm wide. The six stamens are around 3.5 mm long, the stamens are awl-shaped and 2.4 to 4.8 mm long, the anthers 1.8 to 2.7 mm. The latter are purple. The female flowers are unknown.
The fruits are obovate and hump-shaped, 12 to 14.7 mm long. The exocarp is purple-black with a flat scar . The endocarp is ellipsoidal and 11 to 13.6 mm long. The primary leaf is linear-lanceolate and weakly ribbed.
distribution
The species is found dispersed in the estuaries and coastal swamps from Mexico to Honduras and Nicaragua. Occurrences in Belize are likely but not known.
