The Russbülbül ( Pycnonotus cafer ) is a South Asian songbird.
features
The 20 cm long Russbülbül has a long tail. It is colored brown or black on the upper side and on the chest. The back and the belly are lighter and have pretty scales. The lower rump is colored red. The head and the small hood are black. The sexes look similar, the young birds are less colorful. The flight of the Russbülbül is reminiscent of a woodpecker. The diet consists of fruits, nectar and insects.
Occurrence
The Russbülbül comes from tropical Asia from India and Sri Lanka via Myanmar to southwestern China . He lives in the bushes, in open forests and cultivated land. It has been released on numerous islands / archipelagos such as Fiji , Hawaii , Tahiti and Fuerteventura , where it is considered an invasive species and is being fought intensively.
Reproduction
The female lays three, sometimes four, brownish-red speckled eggs, which are incubated for around two weeks.
