Rwanda - The Day God Walked Away (Original title: Le jour où Dieu est parti en voyage ) is a Franco-Belgian drama from 2009 . He addresses the fate of a woman in the genocide in Rwanda .

Jacqueline is a domestic worker for a Belgian family in Rwanda and belongs to the Tutsi minority herself . Since the family is being evacuated by the UN, only the attic is left to hide. The entire house is ransacked, while acts of violence against Tutsi can be heard outside. Jacqueline goes undetected and is able to flee at a careless moment. When she arrives at her own house, she finds her two children murdered. She is evicted from her home into the jungle.
She finds a wounded man on the riverbank. She cleans his wounds and gives him water, and later both of them can prepare simple food. As Jacqueline is seen, a group of men enter the forest. She saves himself in a pond, but a young man is waiting on the bank and threatens her with violence, who is killed by the formerly wounded man when he leaves. Jacqueline can be pulled out of the pool. The wounded man now wants to build a shelter with the machete. Traumatized, Jacqueline takes the machete and destroys the man's makeshift arrangement, after which she runs into the village where she collapses.
