Rubén Martínez Caballero (born March 4, 1977 in Paterna ) is a former Spanish soccer goalkeeper and now coach .
Career
As a player
Martínez began his career in the youth of FC Barcelona . After he had previously played for the C team , he made his debut for FC Barcelona B in the Segunda División in November 1996 , when he was in the starting line-up against Écija Balompié on matchday ten of the 1996/97 season . At season's end he had with Barça B in the Segunda División B dismount.
In 1998, after rising again, he moved to the third division team Cultural Leonesa . After two years and 21 league games at Leonesa, he moved to FC Zamora for the 2000/01 season . In that season he was able to prevail against José Luis Vicente Hernández and played 33 games as a regular goalkeeper in the Segunda División B.
After a season in Zamora joined Martínez, however, the Novelda CF at. For the 2003/04 season he was committed by Hércules Alicante . In 2005 he rose to the second highest division with Hércules. After the rise, however, Martínez moved to third division club FC Badalona . After more than 150 competitive games for Badalona, he ended his career after the 2009/10 season.
As a trainer
Martínez initially acted as assistant to Óscar García as the goalkeeping coach of the U-18 team at FC Barcelona . He left the Catalans after the 2011/12 season.
Subsequently, Martínez also became García's assistant at his other clubs, Maccabi Tel Aviv , Brighton & Hove Albion and Watford FC . During his time at Watford, Martínez even briefly acted as head coach with Javier Pereira, as they had to replace the sick García.
During the winter break of the 2015/16 season, Martínez followed García again, this time as assistant coach of the Austrian Bundesliga club FC Red Bull Salzburg .
