List of grape varieties

The red grape variety Ruchè is an autochthonous variety from the Piedmont region in northern Italy . It was probably imported from Burgundy to Piedmont in the 18th century , where it is now almost exclusively cultivated. It is no longer known which variety it was originally. Currently about 100 hectares of planted vineyards are known.

After the rare variety had almost disappeared, replanting campaigns were started in the 1970s. The efforts eventually led to the introduction of a small DOC named Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato .

The Ruchè variety produces aromatic wines with strong tannins in a ruby red color with violet reflections. The red wine has a fruity, floral bouquet with nuances of violets and roses.
