Rudi Steinkamp

Rudolf "Rudi" Steinkamp (born September 10, 1938 in Dorum ) is a German basketball official and former referee.

career

Steinkamp was a basketball player at BC Bremerhaven in the second highest German league at the time. In 1961 he moved to Hamburg for professional reasons and joined TV Lokstedt. The father of two worked there as a player as well as a coach and referee. In 1974 he moved with his family to Stade and became involved in the basketball division of VfL Stade as a coach, manager and referee. Later he also took over the management of the department. After there had only been youth teams there, Steinkamp created a men's team.

Between 1975 and 1989 he was a referee for games in the Bundesliga , his last assignment was in the Bundesliga final series between Bayer Leverkusen and Steiner Bayreuth . In addition to the Bundesliga, Steinkamp was active as a referee in numerous other leagues and competitions, including " Youth trained for the Olympics ". After his active time as a referee, he was employed by the German Basketball Association as a technical inspector at Bundesliga games from 1989 and passed on his experience as a referee coach . In this function he supervised the overall course of the games. He resigned as a technical inspector in 2009.

In addition, Steinkamp has been the head and manager of the Stader men's team for decades, the greatest success of which was promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga ProB in 2013.

In 1998 Steinkamp was awarded the Golden Badge of Honor by the Lüneburg Regional Basketball Association. In 2014, he and Christian Herbst (founder of the basketball department of VfL Stade) received the special prize donated by the Stade 21 entrepreneurial association at the Stader athlete ceremony.
