The Rudolf Diesel Technical School Nuremberg is the largest technical school in the metropolitan region of Nuremberg - Fürth - Erlangen . It trains you to become a state-certified technician in the fields of civil engineering, electrical engineering, IT technology, mechanical engineering and mechatronics.

General information

The school is located in 90491 Nuremberg, Äußere Bayreuther Straße 8. The Rudolf Diesel Technical School is named after Rudolf Diesel , the inventor of the diesel engine. The material cost holder is the city of Nuremberg. The training is offered either full-time (all-day) or part-time (evening school). At the moment (as of October 2019) 46 teachers teach 405 students in 21 classes. There is no school fee for the visit. The school is integrated in Europe's largest vocational school center in the north of Nuremberg.

History

The history of the Rudolf-Diesel-Fachschule begins on June 16, 1910 with the application to the city magistrate of Nuremberg to approve the establishment of an “open drawing room” . Young people from the arts and crafts should be given the opportunity to train themselves drawing in their free time. This opened up the first educational paths for working people.

In 1918, the offer was expanded to include other educational areas such as mathematics, physics, history of style, philosophy and business subjects. The former “open drawing room” was renamed and restructured as the municipal public education courses with an open drawing and work room. In 1923, special classes for mechanical and electrical engineering could be set up for the first time and a year later the college for book trade and graphics was integrated.

In 1938 the institution was restructured again and now served under the name Städtische Berufsoberschule (BO) - not to be confused with the current vocational school - exclusively for vocational training. The BO was divided into two departments: a commercial and a commercial-industrial specialization.

In 1967 the school had to be given a different name, as the Vocational Schooling Act established the terms “high school” for a different type of school. Since mechanical engineering was a focus of the training, it was named Rudolf Diesel Technical School from 1967. Four subjects have now been offered:

  • Structural engineering,
  • Printing technology,
  • Electrical and
  • Mechanical engineering.

From 1973, after successfully completing the technician's examination , the training was completed with the certificate of a state-certified technician . All other areas of training, such as the commercial and artistic, were spun off from the Rudolf Diesel Technical School.

Due to structural changes in the vocational area of the Nuremberg schools, from the school year 1979/80 the Rudolf-Diesel-Fachschule was combined with the vocational school for printing and advertising under a new name to form the vocational school, Directorate 9 . At the same time, the training took place in the rooms of the vocational training center in Äußere Bayreuther Straße. In addition to training as a technician, an additional examination was used to acquire the intermediate educational qualification and then, in a two-year evening course, the technical college entrance qualification . Because the trade fair events in the "Old Fair" on Leipziger Platz had been relocated to Langwasser due to the cramped conditions , the vocational training center (BBZ) could be built in its current form across from the Nuremberg city park.

In the 1990s, the priority was to implement rapid technical developments in the field of EDP in the classroom, and the 1999/2000 school year saw the last restructuring of the Rudolf Diesel Technical School. On the basis of a resolution by the city council, the building, electrical and mechanical engineering departments, including the courses to acquire the technical college entrance qualification, were administratively assigned to the vocational school, directorate 2, while retaining the name “Rudolf Diesel Technical School”. The printing technology department (initial and technical training) was organizationally integrated into the vocational school, Directorate 6. The newly created “Competence Center for Media and Marketing” is intended to bring together technical and commercial media professions. The respective classrooms and training rooms remained unaffected by changes.

Since the 2001/2002 school year, IT technology has been taught at the Rudolf Diesel Technical School.

The subject of mechatronic technology has also been offered since the 2009/2010 school year.
