history

The hospital was opened in 1842 in today's Pestalozzistraße, and in 1891 it moved to the larger building of the poor house on Lungwitzer Straße. In 1914 the main building (House 1) of today's hospital was inaugurated, and the expansion was completed after the end of the war. An X-ray machine has been available since 1924.

The eye clinic founded by Heinrich von Wolffersdorff in 1934 is also a response to the "Glauchau eye disease" caused by air pollution from the chemical industry ( H 2 S ). With its 25 beds it is still of national importance.

During the Second World War, a new building intended as a residential building was used as a hospital.

After 1945, various sub-hospitals were used to accommodate and isolate tuberculosis patients. With all auxiliary facilities, the hospital had 520 beds. The number of beds rose to 656 within a year . A children's clinic was built in Meerane . In 1950 responsibility was transferred from the city to the district. In 1964, the I-Haus (Infection House) with three internal medicine stations was opened as an in-patient facility. In 1971 gynecology / obstetrics was outsourced to the Meerane hospital. The internal department was concentrated in Glauchau. The reconstructed houses I and II in the Glauchau district hospital were handed over in 1980. In 1981 the multi-purpose building with central laboratory was handed over and in 1982 the interdisciplinary intensive therapy department. In 1981 the Glauchau and Meerane hospitals merged. In 1988 the dialysis department with 8 places was inaugurated. In 1989 the operating room wing and the central sterilization department were renovated and expanded.

In 1989 the house was given the addition "Rudolf Virchow".

In 1992/1993 the departments outsourced to Meerane (paediatrics, gynecology and obstetrics) were again concentrated at the Glauchau site. In 1995 the new hospital pharmacy was handed over. A new focus of medical care was created in autumn 1996 with the laying of the foundation stone for the clinic for psychiatry with three wards, embedded occupational therapy, day clinic and institute outpatient department. The sterilization department, the X-ray department, a physiotherapy department, five operating theaters, the emergency department, a surgical station, the wards of the clinic for gynecology and obstetrics, the intensive therapy and a new delivery room were completed at a cost of 26.7 million euros.

The number of beds at the Glauchau hospital grew until 1999 when it peaked at 506 beds. Since March 2004, various specialists have moved into their own practice in the hospital. In 2006, an MVZ was founded, through which further medical practices were established at the Virchowstrasse location and in the surrounding region. In 2007 the psychiatric and psychotherapeutic places were expanded by 15 with a day clinic in the Limbach-Oberfrohna branch . In 2008, the second construction phase, House 18, with four internal medicine wards, functional diagnostics with an endoscopy department and the eye clinic with outpatient and operating theater wing was opened.

In 2008 the REHA-Zentrum-Glauchau, unique in West Saxony, was opened for mentally ill people. In 2013, the hospital signed the first Saxon contract for a regional psychiatry budget as a model project for cross-sector care together with the Heinrich-Braun-Klinikum Zwickau .
