Rudolf Biederstedt

Rudolf Biederstedt (born January 13, 1920 in Stralsund ; † March 14, 1996 ) was a German archivist and historian . From 1954 to 1983 he headed the Greifswald City Archives.

Life

Biederstedt attended school in Stralsund, passed the Abitur examination there in 1938 and then studied biology at the Ernst Moritz Arndt University in Greifswald , the Friedrich Wilhelms University in Berlin and the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . From 1942 on he was unable to work for a decade; during this time he turned to the history of Pomerania . In 1953 he was able to become a research assistant at the Stralsund City Archives , then at the Stralsund Cultural History Museum - without any formal qualifications - and in 1954 he took over the management of the Greifswald City Archives . He headed the city archive until his retirement in 1983. In addition, he studied history at the University of Greifswald until 1958.

In addition to his direct archival work, Biederstedt has dedicated himself to researching the history of Pomerania and has published on this. During the entire period of publication of the Greifswald-Stralsund yearbook from 1961 to 1982, he was involved in its editing and published numerous articles. In 1993 he became a member of the Historical Commission for Pomerania .

Biederstedt also wrote humorous short stories.
